AUSTRALIAN YOUTH TEAMS SHELL SHOCKED IN FIRST TEST |

The Australian 18s Boys team was shown a lesson in aggressive power touch when the Kiwi boys team put in a strong performance against the Australian boys in the first test in Christchurch. The Australian boys were surprised by the speed and agility of the Kiwis, however they more then matched them for speed for the first 10 minutes, by half time the New Zealand boys led 4 - 2. In a high scoring second half the Australians scored 4 touch downs whilst the New Zealanders scored 5. The final score saw New Zealand winners 9 - 6. Australian 18s Girls def New Zealand Secondary Schools girls 4 - 3 (drop-off) The Australian girls 18s team were also shocked by the New Zealanders when they scored with their first possession. Australia hit back at the 10 minute mark when Jarah Jennings scooted from half to put Leah Mandell over in the corner. Australia went ahead soon after with a quick hands ball which resulted in Jarah Jennings scoring out wide to make it 2-1. At the 17 minute mark the New Zealand girls again outnumbered the Australians to draw level at the half time break. The second half saw both teams move the ball from one end to the other. Until the 16 minute mark, when New Zealand again scored with a wide ball. Australia replied immediately to again level scores. At the end of normal time scores were level 3 all. The Australian girls defended well in the early part of the drop-off and when the teams had 4 players each the Kristie Jenkins looped to create an overlap and sprinted from half way to see Australia win the game 4 - 3.
