AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL TEAMS TOO STRONG FOR NZ SOUTH ISLAND |

Australian 16s boys The Australian boys started stongly and at 8 minutes Alad Owen scooted through the South Island line to give a low pass toDean Springfield to put Australia up 1-0. It took another 10 minutes for the Australians to get over the line and score, when Josh Costello was on the end of quick hands to score out wide. Then as the siren went for the half, the Australians went in again after excellent work in the middle to see Rohan Hastings go over to score. At the half time break Australian led 3-0. In the second half an early defensive lapse in the middle saw the South Island team score and close the gap. Three minutes later the Australians struck back through Andrew Barrett who received a long pass from Angelbert Yagi. The Australians lost their way for the next 10 minutes until Zeb Tawha got on the outside of his opponent to find Greg Bani, taking Australia to a lead to 5 - 1. At 16 minutes Andrew Barrett scooted from half passing to Zeb Tawha and the Australians led 6 - 1. The New Zealand team hit back when the Australians' concentration lapsed in the middle to score. The final score was 6 - 2. The Australian 16s girls The young Australians crossed early but were were not rewarded. At 7 minutes Ashleigh Dobbins made space out side her opponent to score. Five minutes later Alison Tremaine then made a break to pass off to Alyce Hulbert to score. The New Zealand team then capitalised on slow reaction by the middles to make the score 2 - 1. If was a further 10 minutes before Nicole Beck scored, with a simple draw-and-pass, quick hands allowing Alison Tremaine to score. The score at the half break was 4 - 1. In the second half Kelly Pepper made a good break to create the overlap and go through to score. At 10 minutes Amanda Skwarko drifted wide to switch with Kelly Pepper and an easy pass off to see Alyce Hulbert score in the middle of the field. Ashley Dobbins scored on the end of a set play by the Australians off a pass from Charli Simpkins. In the final minutes Coby-Jane Morgan went through the line to score leaving the Australians 8 - 1 winners. |
