AUSTRALIAN 16's YOUTH TOUR - RESULTS FROM CANTERBURY

Australian 16's Mens defeated Canterbury Under 21's 5-4.

The Australian players struggled through the early part of the match, losing possession on their own line.

After just 3 minutes of play the Australian 16's were down 1-2, but good ball movement through hands resulted in Greg Bani scoring to lock up the game 2-2.

The second half saw Canterbury score to take the lead, while the Australian's continued to struggle with maintaining ball possession and getting out of their own half.

They hit back however, scoring in the 10th, 12th and 20th minutes to win the game 5-4.

Coach Mark Wallace says the team has bonded well after a very tough National Championships where they were opposed to each other.

"The boys have learnt heaps on tour, it has been a great life experience not only with Touch, but for the experiences and friendships. The group has embraced teh Australian Touch culture of team harmony before individualism and are doing their country proud!"

Wallace includes amongst his most consistent players: Angelbert Yagi, Alyd Owen, Vaughn Eriksen, Greg Bani, Dean Springfield and Maurice Kennedy.

AUSTRALIAN 16's WOMENS:
Australian 16's Womens defeated Canterbury Women's Under 21's 6-0.

The girls struggled through the first half, competing well against their older opponents but only maganging to take a 1-0 lead into the half time break.

However, the second half saw the team produce their best touch for the tour scoring 5 touchdowns to take the result to 6-0.

Coach Anthony Prior says he is pleased with the progress of the team so far.

"The girls are starting to hit their straps after a good solid performance today against the Canterbury team. The atmosphere and the friendship amongst the girls is great."

Prior believes that several of his players are producing consistently good performances including Alyce Hulbert, Nicole Beck, Sam Hopkin, Amanda Skwarko, Tenneille Shaw and Cobie-Jane Morgan.
