AUSSIES READY FOR THE KIWIS |
|
The teams comprise of a mixture of both experienced and youthful players who will be endeavouring to impress coaches and selectors as Australia commences its preparations for the 2003 World Cup. The recent exclusion of long time mens open player Brenton O'Shanesy provided an opening for Sydney speedster Adam Lollback. Lollback, who is a member of the National Training Squad has been included in the tour as a development player to gain valuable experience in preparation for further international competition in the coming year as Australia looks to ensure its place as the leading Touch nation. Whilst all coaches are happy with preparations an amount of uncertainty lies in their New Zealand counterparts after changes in the Kiwi teams. The last time the teams met was at the 1999 World Cup in Sydney where the Australian men won convincingly, the Australian women held on in a tight result and the New Zealand mixed team won that division. Australia won the World Cup by virtue of the mens and womens results. This time the teams play in Hamilton, New Zealand and the Australians are hoping that the home soil is not an advantage. Australian Tour details will be published in coming week. |
