TFA Anti Doping Policy

TFA Anti Doping Policy:

TFA condemns the use of performance enhancing drugs and doping practices in sport. TFA imposes sanctions on persons who commit doping offences, undertakes education on drugs in sport issues, supports the drug testing programs and education initiatives of the Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA), Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and other drug testing authorities.

TFA has recently adotped the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) revised anti-doping framework and requirements. These are included in the TFA policy dated 1 January 2005.

The reasons for the changes are that the ASDA Act has been amended. As such ASDA is required to comply with the World Anti-Doping Program legislative amendments.

The changes to the policy are:

•           New anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) under the Code are recognised

•           Ability to publicly name athletes appearing the register of notifiable events (RNE)

•           Allows increased information collection, exchange and dissemination powers

Which ADRVs will ASDA make entries onto the RNE?

•           Tampering with ASDA process (athletes)

•           Evasion

•           Violation of athlete availability requirements:

•           Failure to provide whereabouts information

•           Missed tests

•           Positive tests

•           Failure to comply

Are there other ADRVs?

In relation to use or attempted use, possession, trafficking and administration of prohibited substances or methods, ASDA will collect and examine information and pass it onto the relevant sport to action in accordance with the anti-doping policy.

ASDA would publicly name an athlete after the outcome of a hearing has been disclosed.

ASDA will disclose the following information:

Information pertaining to athlete whereabouts, therapeutic use exemptions, test histories and results or information relating to potential ADRVs.

Information exchange/disclosure may be to WADA, International or National Federations, National Anti-Doping Organisations, Australian Customs Service, Australian Federal Police, Australian Sports Commission or the Australian Olympic Committee.

Further informaiton is also available from the ASDA website http://www.asda.org.au/ under the Athlete Resources section.
