"SIXTY SECONDS IN TOUCH"
Tuesday, 25th January 2005
* Well, it's hard to believe that after all the hard work of the past few months, the Youth World Cup is finally over. It was a brilliant week of competition, with many highlights. The Touch was fantastic, the players showed great sportsmanship and many friendships were formed. The Australian Under 20's Men (pictured here) no doubt take home everyone's award for the ultimate in courage and passion in playing for our country. They did us all proud.
* It was great to see stories in the newspapers every day, on the radio constantly and the event making the television news most nights, it was certainly a learning experience for some of the players asked to speak to the reporters! It's a great push for the sport and no doubt we will see more stories on the success of the Australians in the weeks to come.
* Congratulations to New Zealand for taking home four divisions and the overall Youth World Cup title, they played brilliantly all week and it was well deserved.
* Congratulations also to the Australian Mixed Under 18's and Womens Under 20's for winning their division, it was great stuff to see! Finally, congratulations to everyone involved, the players, coaching and team staff, the event staff and the referees. Everyone is crucial to how well the event runs.
* Now that the Youth World Cup is over, our attention turns to the National Touch League. It's just over 6 weeks away and everyone is gearing up for the biggest NTL ever. Keep an eye on the ATA site for all the latest news and information regarding NTL.
* NSW Touch have been busy in the past few days updating their website with heaps of information. If you're interested in playing `Touch at Lunch' you'll find a nomination form on the NSW site, as well as information for the Yass Knockout, the Junior State Cup and the latest Level 1 Coaching Course. See www.nswtouch.com.au for all the news.
* The ACT Touch Annual Report is on their website. If you're interested in how ACT Touch have gone this year, it's a good read. www.acttouch.com.au
* Just a note to finish this week's 60 seconds in Touch...as we (Youth World Cup tournament staff) were leaving the plane as we got home to Canberra, the cheery air hostess said goodbye and then happened to notice we were wearing Australian Touch t-shirts...."Oh, you'll know my cousin," she said, "maybe," we said, "Bo De-la Cruz," she said, "yes, we know her, great girl, great player," we said. Just a note to finish on.
