| SISTER ACT 3 | |
| Well, there was the first Sister Act where Whoopi hid from her sleazy boyfriend as a nun and rejuvenated their choir. Then there was Sister Act 2 where Whoopi returned to transform the student's choir just in time for the national competition. Now there's Sister Act 3, literally... The Northern Eagles women's under 18 side are impressing the competition at this week's Australian Under 18 Touch Football Championships in Coffs Harbour. Their team is playing well and are certain to make it through to this afternoon's Championship qualifying finals. But there is something else that sets this team apart from any other in the entire competition. Within the group of 14 girls hides three separate pairs of sisters, Jayne and Kelly Pepper, Tara and Anna Prowse and Kate and Leica Le brocq. If you spend a few minutes with these sisters from Port Macquarie and Tamworth, you will quickly discover that there's an obvious lack of the anticipated sibling rivalry between them. The younger ones admit that they do aim to be better than their older sisters, but that's far from the most important thing. "We're all good friends, we go to school together, it's just heaps of fun playing in the same team", says younger sister Kelly. Anna agrees that their older sisters add something extra to their team. "They set a benchmark for us to work towards", she admits. And that benchmark is obviously a high one with the way the younger sisters are all performing. Anna starred in round one with five touchdowns against NSW Combined Independent Schools, while Kelly led the way in round four with four touchdowns against the Sydney Scorpions. With the Australian Under 18 Championships doubling as selection trials for the National 18's team there's every possibility that the younger sisters may receive a call up before the older sisters. Jayne, Tara and Kate admit that while they would be disappointed if they weren't selected, it certainly wouldn't stop them being excited for their little sisters. "I think my sister's (Kelly) awesome", says Jayne. "She's probably even better than me, I totally claim her as my own." The girls' coach, Steve Hancock agrees that the girls respect each other and work well together. "There's no sibling rivalry when they're on the field, they're team-mates and friends. That's it", he says. However, as the girls are quick to point out, when they're back in the hotel sharing a room with their sister, things aren't always so smooth. "Anna is so messy, she leaves clothes everywhere", complains Tara. And Anna is quick to fire back, "Tara's so mean, just because she's older". From the quick pokes and teasing thrown between Kelly and Jayne and Kate and Leica, there is no doubt the story is similar there too. Media Contact: Rachel Moyle, 0422233165 |
