FASHIONS ON THE FIELD
Thursday, 10th March 2005
I feel that it's my duty to try and help you visualise exactly what we're dealing with here, so I'm giving you a `Fashions on the Field' article to keep everyone updated on this tournament's trendiest Touchies.
Day One of the 2005 NTL saw some interesting team trends, as well as the odd individual dressed with a difference, appearing around the fields.
The ACT women were spotted wearing silver, glittery princess wands through the back of their ponytails. Hopefully these objects (which could be classified as weapons) were removed before they went out to play.
The South Queensland Sharks have made big changes to their normal playing uniform. The girls are showing less skin, and the men are showing more. (Good for some, not for others.)
The girls have ditched their legless bodysuits for a more comfortable and flattering outfit of bike shorts and singlets, similar to the women's strip at the Youth World Cup.
The men have lost their sleeves, opting for a more buff look by displaying their biceps!
The Hunter-Western Hornets girls have also been displaying some interesting footwear. Led by Lehetta Lane, the girls have been walking around in purple and green sneakers with sequins as well, to match their Hornets colors of course.
The black cowboy hat with, a cream strip of sparkles was also...unique (as worn by a young lady we believe to be a Queensland Country Rustler.)
On the topic of hats, South Queensland Sharks player Ashley Shepherd was also wearing a quite disturbing pink and purple hat this morning.
To quote ATA Media Manager Rachel Moyle "All I can say is I hope it's his birthday or that's just plain wrong."
But, by far the most popular accessory for players at this year's tournament is a John McEnroe style sweatband- as long as it's worn just below the elbow!
So, this is just the beginning, it's day one at the 2005 Asics NTL and things can only get better.
