| Tour Diary Day One | |
| Diary from the Australian 18 years tour to Perth January 2003. Girls Day one saw players travel from all parts of Australia to Perth for the team assembly and preparation for the week ahead. The new players settled into the team with ease and a few secrets were revealed. ACT's Kelly Goodwin showed she had flair on and off the field demonstrating gymnastic ability with flick-flacks and cartwheels. Kirstie Jenkins revealed that she had followed the yellow brick road to Kansas earning the nickname "Dot". The star newcomer to the girls teams has to be Qld's Kara Roffey, who could have taken the role in the movie Legally Blond, she finished year 12 last year with an OP score or 1. To those who are not aware, that means she has achieved one of the highest scholastic results in Qld high school. However it did not take the team members long to make her realise that she was a mere mortal in this company. Sunday night saw the presentation of playing uniforms, the Australian Touch teams were graced with the presence of Australian Track legend Shirley Del A Hunty. In her presentation to the young representatives, she recalled the first time she wore the green and gold and the privilege that the players had in wearing it for this tour. The gear presentation saw a change to the girls playing uniform. The outfit was a departure from the previous swimsuit style with legs in a bodysuit. The QLD contingent were particularly surprised. The presentation saw coaches name co-captains in both teams, Kelly McGennity and Kate Adams are the girl's captains, whilst Troy Malcolm and Josh Essex we named to lead the boys team. Troy also lead the Australian youth team in 2002 for their tour of the Cook Islands. The Media Gang.... |
